Minutes of the Fall 2009 General Membership Meeting

• Meeting called to order by Ed
Collins at 2:00 PM, September 25, 2009.
o Treasurer’s report and Spring 2009 meeting
minutes were distributed to attendees

Treasurer’s Report – R. Wright
o Ending Balance (3/23/09) $3.494.50
o Have added 1 new member from Class of 2013.
o No outstanding expenses to note.

Secretary’s Report – J. Constantino
o A review of the meeting minutes from April 19, 2009
was made by John Constantino.
o Report approved without changes.

Ways & Means Report – B. Stark
o Explanation of duties of Ways & Means
o Review of sales for R-Day and Parents Weekend
•
R-Day sales were approximately $1,708.
•
Final sales from this Parent’s Weekend not yet known
•
Will be submitting expenses for this Parent’s Weekend to
replenish inventory of about $400
•
R-Day expenditures were approximately $1,400
o Will need to have a new person volunteer to take
over Ways & Means duties for start of next academic year
•
All-Academies Ball – N. McElroy & M. Greendyk
o CGA and Merchant Marine Academy to sponsor AAB this
year.
o Event date is December 26, 2009 at the Union League
in Philadelphia
o Requesting that CG Del Val Chapter and MMA chapter
donate an additional $250 for a total of $750 to keep cadet cost low.
o Asking to have ball be considered as meeting the
cadet’s attendance requirement.
o Don Rulon’s daughter has volunteered to be
the Bag Piper.
o www.allacademiesball.org is web site to get
information about the event
o Committee volunteers are always welcome.

2010 Class Gift for Graduates – J. Constantino
o Will begin to look at options for a gift from
chapter to graduates from chapter
o Have approximately 14 graduates from chapter
o Consider price ranges from $25 to $75 per gift

National Parents Association Report – Ed. Collins
o Meeting held during Parent’s Weekend
o Review of recent CGA incidents related to
discipline issues
o Class sizes will be smaller than in the past due to
budget and officer needs
o Cadets who leave country need to go through a 6
hour training
o Association looking at replacing furniture in all
day rooms in Chase Hall
o Alumni Association want the Parent Gift Fund to
donate $400,000 from endowment
o SAT requirements will less of a factor in
admissions requirements
o Congressional appointment requirement not discussed
•
Other Business Items
o Bernadette Atwell to coordinate next Welcome Picnic
for new cadets
o Will only consider booking a block of hotel rooms
around the academy for R-Day. This seems to be the time most needed.
•
Next planned meeting will be at US Coast Guard Station,
Philadelphia, PA on Sunday, December 6, 2009
