Minutes of the Winter 2007/8 General Membership Meeting
January 27, 2008
USCG Station Philadelphia,
PA
• Meet and Greet of Prospective Cadets for Class of 2012 was held.
Station personnel provided a tour
of the facility, Tate, and Cleat for prospective cadets, their
families, and attending parents association members.
• Officers, current members, and new member introductions were made.
New Member Application received from Mary and Dave Yoder; Cadet Rory Yoder, Class of 2010.
• A review of the meeting minutes from October 12, 2007 was made by John Constantino.
Minutes were approved without discussion.
• Nina McElroy will be the new Delaware Valley
Chapter representative to the All-Academies Ball Committee.
• Charlene Delanoy discussed her duties as an
Academy Partner: Conducts introductory discussions about the Academy to
prospective cadets at area high schools.
• Treasurer’s Report – D. Greenly
o Beginning Balance (9/30/07) $3,639.37.
o Ending Balance ( 1/25/08) $3,218.42.
o No outstanding issues for discussion.
o Report approved and seconded without discussion.
• Ways & Means Report – P. Vihonski (submitted but not present)
o Inventory list of items for sale at events submitted.
o 2007 Parents Day Sales at the Academy were the biggest ever at $2,458.10.
o No new items are planned to be purchased at this time.
o Open to ideas for new items for future sales.
o Report approved and seconded with discussion.
• All Academies Ball Report – Joan Miller / Nina McElroy (submitted but not present)
o Nina McElroy will be taking over
as our representative to the All Academies Ball Committee.
o Reported that December 2007
event hosted by West Point Parents Association was at the Union League
in Philadelphia and was well done.
o Our chapter was able to supply
the recommended number of gift cards for the cadets attending the ball.
o Reminder that the December 2009
event will be co-hosted by the USCGA and US Merchant Marine Academy
Parents.
We will be asking for volunteers to assist in putting on the event.
• 2008 Welcome Picnic – C. Delanoy
o Planned to be held this year again at the Atlantic City Air Station.
Last year’s picnic at the station was well received.
o Proposed date is Sunday, June 1.
o Will need to get response for Public Relations office at station.
o Will likely have
hoagies/chips/salads/sodas and will ask prospective cadets to assist
with some portion.
o All members of Parents Association are invited.
o Current parents to ask their
son/daughter cadets if they may be available to attend and speak with
new cadets about the Academy.
o Request for additional parent volunteers to help with picnic always welcome.
• New Business – P. Kauffman
o Next Parents Association
National meeting will be February 23, 2008. Paul Kaufmann and the
Vihonski’s to attend
o Thoughts on additional donations
– Try to get a list of potential ideas at National Meeting
– Contribution to the National Fund which
would then be used to give to the Corps of Cadets.
o Expect to donate $800 to the
Reporting In Day picnic activities – May have to fund the entire
$1,500 if the Chesapeake and Potomac Parents
Association
chapter does not participate in 2008. If the C&P chapter does not
participate then will solicit other chapters for assistance.
o Want to keep additional $1,000 in treasury for discretionary funds.
o Proposed new contribution of
$1,400 form Del Val Chapter to National Parents Assoc. for cadet use.
Ways & Means
will need to approve before actual contribution is made since they are
not present for this meeting.
Chapter needs to be aware of unknown expenses that may be in the future.
Members at meeting
approved and seconded the proposed new contribution contingent upon
Ways & Means approval.
o Annual propsoal of $500
discretionary fund for any cadet activity that would be in our area
during 2008.

Must also be
approved by the Treasurer and one other officer before paying.
o Block of hotel rooms in New
London for R-Day and next Parents Day to be arranged by Lorraine
Kauffman
• Vacant Offices
o In Spring 2009 there will be 3 offices open: President, Ways & Means, and Treasurer.
o Vice President has been vacant for last couple of years.
o Request for nominations will be
sent out by P. Kauffman along with a description of duties for each
office.
o There is a need for an R-Day coordinator for this year.
• Next Meeting Schedule
o Next meeting to be scheduled for April if possible.
o Place to be determined as well as final date.
o Tentative plans are for April 19
at Cape May Coast Guard Station and will investigate options for lunch.
