USCGA Parents Association Meeting Minutes
Chesapeake and Potomac Chapter February 2, 2008.

The February breakfast meeting was held at Seibel’s Restaurant in Burtonsville, MD.  Ten cadet families were represented.

Chapter President Tim Jarman opened the meeting at approximately 9:35am.  He began by emphasizing the chapter need for volunteers who are willing to hold the positions of Vice-President and Secretary.  Tim also announced the need for leadership in Membership, the Joint Service Academy Ball, Newsletter and the Appointees Picnic.  Deb Valencia agreed to serve as Membership chairperson and Carroll Chase agreed to serve as Newsletter and Appointees Picnic chairperson.  Tim encouraged members to consider a leadership role in the organization.  We need to present a full slate of officers in April.

Tim reviewed activities from the December meeting and reported on the donation made to the academy.  Fran Burnett, treasurer, stated that confirmation of receipt of the donation had been received.  We will discuss an additional donation at the April meeting.

Don Hager, Ways and Means chairperson, reported that he still needed suggestions from the membership about items to sell at RDay and Parents Weekend.  A decision on these items must be made by the April meeting to allow Don adequate time for ordering.  Several ideas were suggested:  lanyards, luggage tags, sweatshirts.  Members were encouraged to bring ideas to the April meeting so that a decision can be made then.  Tim or Don will email an inventory list of current Ways and Means items to members.

Lou Hepp, Vice-President, reported that he had been in contact with the academy about activities that the chapter might provide for the visiting men’s lacrosse club while they are in the area for a tournament the weekend of March 7-9.  Lou will organize efforts to provide a tailgater dinner on Saturday March 8.

A meeting date and location were discussed for April.  Since there was no general consensus, Tim and Lois will research possible locations and select a date.

Members filled eight fiesta boxes with donated “goodies” for each of the eight academy companies.  Tim and Lois will take the boxes to the academy on the 23rd when they go to New London for the National meeting.

Meeting adjourned at approximately 11:30am.
