USCGA Parents Association Meeting Minutes
Chesapeake and Potomac Chapter August 26, 2007.
The annual crab feast was held at TISCOM, Alexandria, VA. Ten cadet families were represented.
After everyone enjoyed crabs and good food, the meeting was called to order by Tim Jarman, chapter president, at approximately 2:45pm. Tim thanked Bruce Black for making the arrangements with TISCOM for our use of the facility. Tim gave a treasurer’s report for Mike and Fran Burnett. Tim reported that at RDay $612 was received for nametages, $839 from the Ways and Means table and $390.00 from membership. Tim thanked Joan Howard for her work on the name tags and Eileen Hull for her work with Ways and Means. Our current balances are $6571.89 in savings and $2813.09 in checking.
Old Business:
Discussion was held on whether or not to attempt another Prospects Day. The large majority felt that we should focus our chapter efforts on supporting cadets and the school and not on recruiting. Parents who wish to work with recruiting were encouraged to join the school’s Academy Partners or work with congressional representatives on their Service Academy nights.
Upcoming meeting dates are November 4 and December 9. Lois Jarman will try to secure a place at Curtis Bay so that we can “visit” Eagle while she is in drydock and Bruce Black will check with TISCOM about using the facility for the holiday party in December.
Tim encouraged members to apply for the At-Large positions on the national executive council.
Discussion was held about the chapter’s Ethics Award. The award is presented each fall at Parents Weekend. Tim will look into the cost of the award and was authorized up to $100.
Lou Hepp reported on the website. He has made several changes and improvements to the website. He also encouraged everyone to visit the site and welcomed any suggestions. A vote was taken to approve a $35 expenditure for a web program. The motion was unanimously approved.
Parents Weekend was discussed. Eileen sent around a sign-up sheet for workers. The table will be open from 8am-3pm on Friday and from 8am until game time on Saturday. Parents Weekend is October 12-14.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:45pm.
