The Rocky Mountain Chapter of the CGA Parents Association will have a drawing for this beautiful hand-made quilt during Parents Weekend 2010. The cotton quilt, which measures 25 in. wide by 35 in. high was designed, pieced and machine quilted by Jeanette Funk (Christa, '12), of Grand Junction, Colorado. Jeanette belongs to the Coast Guard Auxiliary--Flotilla 10 Western Rivers.
This beautiful wall hanging features a Mariner’s Compass design, signifying so much of what the Coast Guard and the Academy are about—sailing, charting courses, navigation and ultimately having a compass to guide the vessels safely back to their home ports after their missions are complete. The stars in the night sky helped guide the sailors as well, so the Mariner’s Compass is surrounded by starry night skies. Look for the North Star, the Big Dipper, Orion's Belt and the Southern Cross in the skies when you view the quilt.
One hundred percent of all donations made toward the quilt will go toward the Leadership 44 campaign. A representative from the Leadership 44 campaign will draw the winning ticket at half-time of the football game on Parents Weekend. While it's not required to purchase a ticket to participate in the drawing, a suggested donation for a ticket is $10.00 for one, $25.00 for three. If you would like to make a donation for a ticket at Parents Weekend, look for the Rocky Mountain Chapter table.
If you will not be attending Parents Weekend or cannot get to the Chapter's table, you may still participate in advance. All requests made by October 1, 2010 will be filled. If you'd like to make a donation, please mail your check to CGAPA-Rocky Mountain Chapter, PO Box 621757, Littleton, CO 80162. Please include your name, phone number, email address, and mailing address and we will mail your ticket stub/s and receipt to you in return.
